Radius Furniture Design

Portland, OR

The objective of Radius is to create furniture that is rich in experience and quality by integrating both trigonometry and common joinery. All of our functional art pieces are thoughtfully designed and produced without the use of screws, glue or nails. Radius Furniture Design is a family-owned local business out of Portland, Oregon that takes pride in offering pieces that will last a lifetime.

Material combinations are plentiful as every finished piece is made-to-order and as custom as desired.

Home or office- Radius can breathe life into any space that you want to enhance through materials and motion.

In the Summer of 2001, when I was ready to begin my Masters program in architecture, I sketched something on a post-it note, considered the seed that would grow to become Radius Furniture Design. Soon after, I borrowed a miter saw, nail gun and air compressor and loaded my little Pontiac with a large bundle of 1x2 lumber from Home Depot. Then the first prototype was made.

When taking a furniture design course a year later, my professor helped develop the concept to exclude nails and glue from the design and introduced pins and threaded connections for a much cleaner product.

Then came graduation, 5 years of architectural practice (while making countless furniture prototypes) and then the recession in 2009, which took architecture out of the equation.

In 2010, Radius Furniture Design was unveiled at the Las Vegas Market and got the attention of some ambitious sales reps and within a couple of years was selling in 13 showrooms across Florida.

In 2012, the economy rebounded and I went back into the architectural world, got married to Joanne (marketing/admin) and had 2 children (quality control supervisors). Since then, I’ve continued making furniture and recently introduced custom engraved pieces.

Now the Radius line is stronger than ever and re-rooting locally, where it all began.
