Featured Projects
Portland Audubon Marmot Cabin Educational Center
Marmot Cabin is a lodge building in the Mt. Hood National Forest serving as a summer camp for the Audubon Society of Portland. The facility replaced an existing cabin in disrepair to allow more room for campers and staff. Natural sustainably-harvested wood used throughout creates a strong sense of place and emphasizes strong connections to the outdoors. The selection of sustainable wood products for their project reflects the mission and values of the Audubon to conserve and protect the natural world.

The Nature Conservancy Portland Headquarters
The Nature Conservancy is a global environmental nonprofit working to create a world where people and nature can thrive. When it came time to remodel and expand their Oregon headquarters located in Portland, they were guided every step of the way by their mission to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. They held strong to their vision to conserve nature for its own sake as well as for its ability to fulfill the needs of their expansion and to enrich the lives of their employees and all who visit the new space. This project is a shining example of partnership, collaboration, flexibility and sustainability.
Housed in what is now called the Oregon Conservation Center on SE Belmont in Portland OR, The Nature Conservancy partnered with Lever Architecture to reimagine their inefficient and outdated space. Sustainable Northwest Wood was instrumental in sourcing FSC certified lumber, connecting regional fabricators to develop finished goods, integrating Western Juniper and Western Red Cedar products from The Nature Conservancy’s regional conservations sites.

Cowhorn Vineyard and Garden Tasting Room
Cowhorn Vineyard is the first winery in the world to achieve the Living Building Challenge Petal Certification. Cowhorn is an award-winning, biodynamic vineyard nestled in Southern Oregon’s Applegate Valley. When owners Bill and Barbara Steele looked to create a new 2,200 sf Tasting Room and Case Storage for their growing business, sustainability goals were high on their list of priorities.
Green Hammer worked with Sustainable Northwest Wood to ensure that only Forest Stewardship Council certified wood was used in building construction.
The small footprint, wood-framed building is set in the heart of the winery operations to allow visitors to experience the beauty of the vineyard while also learning about biodynamic farming and processing practices.
