Source Library Updates & Purchasing Growth
March 2024
Hello,
As we approach our 6th anniversary at Source, we're amazed by the growth our dynamic team has driven in such a short time. We launched Source with the goal of building the world's largest and most transparent commercial construction platform.
Over the years we’ve adapted to client needs, observed gaps in the market and explored new opportunities, one of which was the recent addition of procurement. Over the past two years we’ve seen exponential 1000% growth year over year on our purchasing side and it has forced a re-evaluation of our offerings as Source.
What is changing?
We’ve made the decision to focus exclusively on our digital offering, including our online catalog, specification tools and purchasing services. Thus we will be ending our library operations at the end of March 2024.
This is a decision near and dear to all of our hearts as our locations have become community and event hubs; a tangible and welcoming space in a very digital world. We will be forever grateful and humbled to have been a part of supporting the community of designers and reps who have used the Source libraries while creating their design visions these last years.
This is not an end to our relationship with the local design communities but an opportunity to redefine what that relationship looks like.
Why is it changing?
What started as one small design library in a corner of a historic building downtown Portland has grown to a digital platform that houses hundreds of thousands of products, billions of dollars in project specs, and in 2024, after just two short years, we will exceed $100 million in annual purchasing volume.
Drivers of this growth have been twofold: first, having one of the most experienced procurement teams in the industry, and second, having built our own proprietary purchasing technology that integrates with our free spec tools. This integrated system streamlines workflows from specification through purchasing, saving weeks on each project and cutting product costs by an average of 10-20%.
What does the future look like?
We expect this significant growth in our technology and purchasing offerings to continue and we are re-orienting our company to support it. We have recently launched our free specification tools (pictured right) and plan on expanding on these, building more robust dashboards and Business Intelligence tools, as well as self-serve vendor portals. We look forward to continuing to grow, evolve and serve this community with integrated technologies that make all of our lives easier.
